Delhi Workshop

Important issues, diverse discussions

BGD’s Learning for Global Democracy workshop took place in Delhi on 1-3 September 2010. Fifty people from 28 countries spread across all world regions took part. In the words of participants, it was a ‘highly creative and highly stimulating’ event. A vast range of voices, views and experiences ensured vibrant debate and generated new understanding.

The workshop examined general themes concerning Learning for Global Democracy as well as ten case studies of experiences from around the world to advance knowledge for democratic action in global affairs. As well as our convening group, authors and discussants, a number of local participants from India also contributed greatly to the proceedings. From this workshop we have produced several publications which further knowledge and practice of learning for global democracy.

‘An important topic that has been addressed from multi-disciplinary perspectives’
‘Excellent and highly stimulating papers’
‘I hope this workshop will serve as a launching pad for future initiatives to explore ways of enhancing citizen education for global democracy.’
