Saied Reza Ameli

Saied Reza Ameli, author of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference study, is Assistant Professor of Media Studies and Director of the Institute for North American and European Studies at the University of Tehran, Iran.

His multidisciplinary higher education covers mechanical engineering, theology, philosophy and sociology at Sacramento, Qom, Tehran, Dublin and London, where he obtained his PhD from Royal Holloway in 2001 on ‘The Impact of Globalisation on British Muslim Identity’.

He has published six co-authored books on globalization and intercultural studies, the latest being Law and British Muslims: Domination of the Majority over the Minority or Process of Balance? (2006). His other papers include ‘Glocal Space: Power and Powerlessness of Cultures’ (2003), ‘Dual Globalizations and the Future of the World’ (2003), ‘The Universality of Liberation Theology: One Is Equal to All and All Are Equal to One’ (2005), and ‘Global Media and Political Representation of Islam and Muslims: BBC and CNN’ (2006). He is an honorary Research Fellow in the Department of American and Canadian Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK.

During the workshop in Gothenburg Saied Ameli’s OIC study was discussed by Michael Schulz and Ziad Abdel Samad. This discussion was chaired by Robert Lloyd from One World Trust and the outcome of the discussion was used to develop and refine the study which will be published in book form along with all the other case studies in 2009.
