Dr. Paul Oquist holds a BA in Political Sciences from the University of California, a Masters Degree in Political Sciences from the University of California in Berkeley and a PhD in Political Sciences from the University of California in Berkeley.
He has worked as a Senior National and International Adviser at the highest level with Presidents and Prime Ministers in Ecuador, Mongolia, Pakistan, The Philippines and Nicaragua.
Dr. Paul Oquist currently works for the Nicaraguan Government as the Minister-Private Secretary for National Policies for the Presidency of the Republic. During this administration, Dr. Oquist has been working on the development of a new model that seeks common welfare based on the support of the small and medium producers in order to eradicate extreme poverty from the country.
In Nicaragua, a very high percentage of the population lives under extreme poverty, therefore the Nicaraguan government understands that achieving sustainable development is impossible with the current capitalist system. The Government of Nicaragua believes that the creation of a new model that guarantees justice and equity is the essential to achieve the eradication of extreme poverty in Nicaragua and around the world.
