Mieko Okamuro is a program officer of the Sasakawa Pease Foundation, Japan. She has been working on social development projects in China for almost two decades, focusing on improving institutional environment surrounding NGOs and assisting NGOs’ capacity building. She has conducted comprehensive studies on Chinese civil society throughout her carrier. She is a coauthor of “NGOs in China”, the first empirical study on Chinese NGOs in Japan. Currently she is mainly in charge of the projects relating the demographic change and international migration. She is involved with many social activities in Tokyo as a board member of Training and Research Center for NGOs, Consortium of Public Philosophy for NGOs and Society for Community Development and Sake-breweries, etc.
