John Evans

John Evans, co-discussant of the OECD study, is General Secretary of the Paris-based Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD (TUAC). Founded in 1948, TUAC now comprises 56 national trade union centres in OECD Member countries, and thus represents some 65 million organised workers. It is recognised as an independent body entitled to represent the views of trade unions vis à vis the OECD. Along with the International Trade Union Confederation and the Global Union Federations, TUAC is a member of the Council of Global Unions and also coordinates union input to the G8 process. Mr. Evans is a British national. Prior to joining TUAC, his appointments have included Research Officer at the European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) in Brussels; Industry Secretary at the International Federation of Commercial, Clerical and Technical Employees (FIET) in Geneva; and Economist in the Economic Department of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in London. Mr. Evans has a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University (1973). He is currently a member of the Board of the Global Reporting Initiative, and member of the Helsinki Group.
