Jocelyne Josiah

Jocelyne Josiah has recently retired as information and communication adviser for Asia with UNESCO.  Her last posting was in India with responsibility for the six countries of South Asia.  She began her international career in 1976 as Conference officer with the CARICOM Secretariat and in 1980 worked as Programme officer with UNITAR in Geneva, Switzerland. She joined the UNESCO Communication Division in Paris the following year, and later headed the Caribbean communication programme based in Kingston, Jamaica.  Ms Josiah spent some time teaching in Guyana, Canada and the United States.  While her special concentration is mass media for community development, her interests and experience touch all the regions of the world.  She was educated at the Bishops High School in Guyana, University of Waterloo in Canada, University of Dijon in France and the Graduate Institute of Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland. Ms Josiah is active in community development and youth activities through non-governmental organizations such as the Girl Guides Association and Lions Club International. She finds the field of Citizen Learning for Democracy highly challenging, especially as it relates to media and looks forward to the practical application of research findings in countries like Guyana and the rest of the Caribbean, as well as eventual networking.
