Eva Erman is author of 'Globalising 'Rule by the People': A Deliberative View'

Eva was educated at Stockholm University and received a PhD in Political Science in 2003. At present she is a senior lecturer in Stockholm as well as a Pro Futuris Fellow at SCAS, Uppsala University. Her research interests are in political philosophy and political theory, focusing in particular on the intersection between democratic theory and global democracy and human rights and global justice.

Erman is the author of the book Human Rights and Democracy: Discourse Theory and Global Rights Institutions (Ashgate 2005) in which she addresses the question of the relationship between political rights and (other) human rights. She is the editor and co-author of the book Legitimacy Beyond the State? Re-examining the Democratic Credentials of Transnational Actors (Palgrave Macmillan 2010). She has also published articles on communicative action, moral conflict and discourse theory in prominent scholarly journals such as Philosophy & Social Criticism, Political Theory and Review of International Studies. She is the chief editor and founder of Ethics & Global Politics, an international peer-review journal which seeks to integrate normative philosophy and political theory with political problems related to processes and phenomena that transgress traditional distinctions between regional, national, international and global levels of politics.

When asked about why she joined the project on Conceptualising Global Democracy, Eva replied:

“The most attractive element of this project is that it is global in the true sense of the word—with contributors spanning a wide spectrum not only geographically and academically, but also concerning theoretical perspective, gender and age—which is exactly what is needed in our common search for a global democratic order. As a political philosopher, I am not afraid of speaking the truth in this matter. Indeed, I think the opening up of a common creative room for empirical scholars, theorists and practitioners around the world is the most fruitful way forward, and I am honoured to take part in this innovate and inspiring project.”
