Elisa Peter

Elisa Peter is the Acting Coordinator and Chief of the New York Office of the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS), an inter-agency programme of the United Nations system promoting constructive engagement of civil society organizations in the work of the UN. NGLS' mandate focuses on expanding the policy space available for non-state actors in intergovernmental negotiations related to the UN's global socio-economic development agenda, thereby contributing to a more transparent and accountable international governance system.

Prior to joining NGLS, Ms. Peter worked as a policy analyst for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome. Before joining the UN system in 2004, she worked for more than 10 years with a wide range of non-governmental organizations in Central America, North America, Europe and Asia in the fields of sustainable development, environmental conservation and human rights.

She holds a Masters Degree in environmental sciences from Imperial College in the U.K.
