The Civil Society and Accountable Global Governance project presented findings and recommendations in a session at the fourth conference of the Globalization Studies Network (GSN).

The conference, on the theme of ‘Globalization and Uncivil Society’, was held in conjunction with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Waterloo, Ontario on 25-27 August 2008.

The CS-AGG panel comprised a subset of the project authors. Jan Aart Scholte of the University of Warwick and London School of Economics presented the project conceptual framework on ‘Global Governance, Accountability and Civil Society’. Saied Ameli of the University of Tehran presented his analysis of ‘Civil Society and Accountability in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference’. Mawaki Chango of the University of Syracuse presented his work on ‘Accountability through Civil Society of the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers’. Peter Hajnal of the University of Toronto presented his assessment of ‘Civil Society and G8 Accountability’. Pamela Mbabazi of Mbarara University of Science & Technology presented the study on ‘Civil Society and Accountability in the Commonwealth’. Ramesh Thakur of CIGI chaired the discussion.

The presentation was a welcome opportunity to consolidate revisions to, and enhance the mutual integration of, the five studies. Helpful feedback was gained from an audience of around 40 researchers from programmes of global studies across the world.
